Two Different Settings for Custom Stride Length

Can anyone explain why there are two different User settings for custom stride length in the Mobile app? One is under Garmin Device settings and that one seems to remain stable. However, the other one found below that in Settings seems to show an exaggerated number that comes out of left field. Even after it is set correctly and then synced, it changes back to a strange number. I have confirmed this on both IOS and Android. I do not have a stride length of 8 feet!!!

Yeah, I just noticed that last week on mine too... was set to something crazy like 8.46 feet.

To clarify, I had set a custom walking stride length quite a while ago. I haven't checked it (nor had any need to) since I did that, but was poking around and found that strange setting. I unchecked the "custom" button, synched, and it's fine now. I no longer have a custom stride set, but it didn't revert to that crazy length again.

    A Thought on Stride

I was wondering if the difference between the two user settings (the correct custom stride setting and then the crazy one) has to do with the interpretation of what exactly stride means. In other words, does one setting use steps as individual units and the other considers stride as a combination of left AND right paces. Then the custom stride length will be greatly off as it is on my Vivofit2. Just a thought. Can anyone confirm the actual Garmin interpretation of "stride?"
  • When I set up the custom stride, it certainly implied it was the length of one step. I input my distance, and number of steps, and my stride length showed up as 2.9x feet (or something like that)... certainly was not 8+ feet.
