Does Garmin ever respond to user feedback?

TL;DR: Has anyone had success or seen success in getting Garmin to implement anything requested in this forum into Garmin Connect?

My original plan today was to post about how to get weekly mileage totals on the Garmin Connect Dashboard (I know it can be seen in the calendar) because it seems like a basic feature. I found the widget entitled "reports" and selected "total distance" but it just has a bar graph that is pretty useless. Before I posted I decided to search the forum and found several other posts asking the same thing over the past few years.

This should be such an obvious feature to have for runners and cyclists. The main point of Garmin Connect is to collect an analyze data; weekly mileage is one of the critical data points of any running plan. While it should have been one of the first features programmed into Garmin Connect, it seems that customer feedback should have made it obvious to those at Garmin what a glaring lapse of functionality they had. However, it appears not.

Anyhow, has anyone had success or seen success in getting Garmin to implement anything requested in this forum into Garmin Connect?
  • Not sure what you want. You seem to be aware that you can get the weekly totals in the calendar but then appear to be asking for...weekly totals.

And as for the Reports view. Hover over the relevant bar and you get a total. Select Progress Summary and you can get all the information that you feel is so vital for your training.

The data may not be where you would like it to be, or how you would like it displayed, but it is there and able to be seen by activity.

I haven't used the Reports page before but it took me only a couple of minutes to find the data! Sometimes it pays to have a look through the options first.

The smugness of your reply is much appreciated. However, I apologize if my post was confusing. Allow me to try again.

  • Yes.

    More than Garmin admits actually.

A few examples from my vivosmart:

With a firmware update, Garmin implemented a change in what is displayed during an activity. This caused a tremendous outcry. They reversed it one or 2 firmware updates later.
There were a lot of complaints about music controls on the android and iOS platforms. Only Google Music worked properly. Now most players do - at least mine does.
There were a multitude of complaints about all the notifications when when you lost connection and re-established connection to the phone. Garmin, at first, implemented a half-baked 10 minute rule that didn't seem to work. Two firmware updates ago, they added a disable alerts option to the bluetooth menu.

That being said, the only forum where you regularly see responses from Garmin is in the Express forum.
  • They are probably too busy not fixing the ton of feedback "A doesn't work, B ..."

So simple "That feature would be nice" requests don't get any love at all.

Seriously. Looking at the overwhelming majority of feedback posts on this forum I wonder how this company is still in business.
  • It really depend on which forum/administrator and the person/developer behind that, will read your post.
But first of all: Like everywhere else in the world, if you were not polite and just ask "Why are they doing that", "Does Garmin hate me", "This is rudimentary, this has to work" or one of my favorites "Open Letter to Garmin", the people will not spend their freetime to help you out.

Because this is exactly what it is. No one get the time from garmin to use/answer this forum.
The most of them do it voluntary. Some got more time for that, some doesn´t. If they would stop developing, just to answer a thread, it will not be in your purpose, either!
    - If you have had used the search function, you would have found several threads about that and answers from some garmin workers -

Finally the answer to your question:
Yes, the do. Especially the Virb Edit Software (to cut videos from their action cams) depends very much on our wishes!
Also as pshare mentioned before, some kind of bugs in specific circumstances or nice-to-have features are included as well.

But you cannot make a definitively statement, because it depends on which topic/device/developer/technology it refers.
  • As someone who has worked in IT myself, I would also add that companies don't hire people to sit around and wait for posts in forums in order to find work for them. They have queues and responsibilities and new requests which are approved need to be added to the queue in a prioritized/organized way.

Then there is an analysis phase before development can start. So don't expect that you can make a request today and it will be implemented tomorrow, next week, or even next month - particularly if it's a "nice to have".

    Great! Thanks everyone!
It's good to see that some have had success with the forum. I think a more direct question for me to ask would have been "What's the best way to get feedback to Garmin?"

However, I think that was answered by SUSSAMB, so thanks for that.

I feel the frustration as well. Some things I think would be "nice to have" I know are just the way I want them. But something like weekly mileage totals on the dashboard (both in the mobile app and desktop site) seem so obvious to me that it's hard to believe they are not there. Anyhow, I'll send something to Garmin via the link SUSSAMB sent and hope for the best.
