Wrong activitiy type in Report

Hi all,
I'm a new member on this forum. I decided to post my issue here because I wasn't able to find an answer browsing the forum.

When I upload my data on Connect after an activity, it is registered as Run by default. Since I also cycle, I change the activity type to Cycling. Usually this worked fine, but it has been happening recently that the activity type is not changed in the Reports (but it appears indeed as Cycling in the Activities menu). Therefore I have totally absurd data in my Run reports, with crazy pace for example, which make the reports unusable.

I understand that for a recent activity, it can take time to be changed in the report. But some activities are a couple weeks old and still registered as Run in the reports.

By the way, I'm using a Forerunner 220.

Thanks in advance for your help!
  • The same issue with FR620 and GC - sometimes it changes, sometimes not. This problem appears after the page was down for a day.
  • This started 3 weeks ago after the planned maintenance shutdown. I notified Garmin and they have opened a case about it.

Two days ago, my non-running activity was shown properly in the report so I thought that they might have fixed it.
However, my activity from yesterday still shows as running.
  • For me, sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn't. What I have seen is that it depends on how quickly I change the activity type after downloading to GC. If I'm quick, then it is usually ok. In instances where it doesn't update, if I delete the activity and re-download it from the watch, it updates ok.

Quite annoying actually, as I use the reports for tracking distance etc.
  • thanks

Thanks for all the answers. So IIRC, the bug may not be totally fixed, but it won't change back past mistakes anyway.

James, thank you. I tried re-uploading activities after deleting them and it worked, so I guess it's OK although, yes, quite annoying. But it's either that or I completely delete them since they screw up my indicators.

Same here. Still doesn't work. Think I'll send them a link to this thread in reply to an email I got from them saying they're working on it.

    Good catch!

I tested it out. Today, I changed the activity type immediately after syncing and it worked properly.

It seems to me that the routine to update the activity type in the report only runs once after a sync when it should run at regular intervals.

Since they originally opened the case because of my email to them about 2 weeks ago, I followed it up today with the results of my test. This way they can link the information to their case number and hopefully resolve it quickly.

but it seems to sync automatically, sometimes during the middle of an activity. In any case, I'll try this and see if it works.
  • For me this still doesn't work. Even after updating activity type right after sync. All reports still showing wrong activity type
  • On the vivoactive, it seems to treat an activity correctly if the device does, but not if you edit in the app. i.e. the vivoactive has a application for cycling and if you use that it's treated properly, but if you edit after the fact it was a no go.
  • Same here with a Vivofit and an Edge 520

Would be nice if you could define activity type at least on the Edge 520, which has a proper user interface. But the Edge just assumes that anything done with a cycling computer (which doesn't do a very good job at being one) is cycling.

And it's not just the activity type that's not updated. I sometimes have to adjust calorie count and HR data (because of misreads / dropouts); doesn't propagate through to reports either.

    Really annoying.
