Segments for previous activities

Forgive me for asking a basic question, but I've searched back a long ways and couldn't find an answer..

Assuming the Segments feature ever gets up and running again, will it record and report about previous activities that have crossed a newly created segment (i.e. back populate my segment leaderboard) or will it only look at activities going forward from the time the segment was created?

I understand from a recent communication from Garmin Support that a new segment will initiate a search of data for the previous 12 months for matches when creating its leaderboard.

When it was working it did used to populate segments with historic data including those form other garmin runners.

I use segments a lot and am frustrated that it has been non functional for the last few weeks. :(
