power average discrepancy even with zeros

Can anyone tell me why my average power numbers on Garmin connect (via edge 500 head unit) and strava differ.

I have zero averaging on, so it's not that.

When I look at the raw data in the tcx file and auto sum the power column and divide by number of data collection points I get the strava figure, but garmin is always slightly different.

Driving me to distraction trying to figure out how the edge 500 is calculating the average power. Connect just takes the number straight from the head unit rather than doing it's own sums, so something to do with the math on the device me thinks.

Please help!!

Thanks

    To answer my own question...

The Garmin figure comes direct from the head unit and is calculated every second of the ride with the consequent rounding up/down of the decimal throughout when doing each calculation.

The Strava figure is calculated on import of the raw data by dividing the sum of all the recordings by the number of data points.

This leads to a discrepancy I think.
