Forerunner 205 only intermittently detected on Windows 10

I have a Forerunner 205 and use Garmin Connect and both are up to date. However, on my Windows 10 machine, Connect only occasionally recognizes the Forerunner when it's plugged in. (It did the same while this machine ran Win 8.1.) My Win 7 laptop senses it just fine - every time - but that laptop is dying so I can't rely on it much longer. Why won't Garmin Connect work reliably on my new Windows 10 machine? BTW I've tried it with the Forerunner both on and off when placed on the cradle, and tried the "Power + Up" advice that I found on the Garmin website.
  • Having same problem with 305

I would also like to hear how to solve this problem. I have a Forerunner 305 and have to plug this in and out several times before it will sync when in Windows 10. I have a dual boot system on this PC with Windows 7 as well. If I boot into windows 7 the Garmin connects and syncs without any problem.

Thus far I have tried all of the following:

    1. Re-installed Garmin Express latest version
    2. Checked that firmware on Garmin is the latest version
    3. Done a factory reset on the device, which means all previous data was cleared.
    3. Tried plugging in to both front and rear USB ports
    4. Tried different cables.
    5. Cleaned the cradle and contacts.
    6. Tried running the program on Window 7 compatibility mode same problem!

The unit will connect and charge, but will not sync.

Has this been resolved as i get this issue and as stated by others, have followed all the process listed.

  • I have a 205. Bought new 14 years ago. The inconsistent connection was usually due to the mini USB cable and/or the cradle or corrupt data on the device. Sometimes I literally have to mash the device to the cradle to get it to sync. Using several rubber bands to hold the 205 firmly on the cradle.

As  mentions, all those tasks are good ways of resolving this, starting with the easiest items. I would just add after all of the above is to try a different computer, then buy a new Garmin.
