Connecting Strava with Garmin connect

Former Member
Apologies if this has been asked 100 times before as this seems such a basic question, but I couldn't find a clear answer anywhere to this and it's starting to drive me slowly insane.

Anyway, I have a Strava Premium account and I have just bought an Edge 520. I have connected my Strava Premium account to my Garmin Connect account via the Strava website. I can see the connection has worked on both the Strava page and when I look at my 'Account Information/ Setting/ Application' tab in Garmin Connect. I cannot, however, see any of my Strava favorited segments in my segment widget in Garmin Connect - I can only see Garmin segments. There is not really any clear guidance as to how to bring these Strava Favorited Segments into connect - are they just meant to appear? There does not appear to be anything in the Segments section of Garmin Connect that allows me to 'tell' it to use my Strava Segments instead of the Garmin segments?

How does this work - is there a magic button somewhere in Garmin Connect I should be pressing. If someone is able to help me I would be incredibly grateful.
  • in garmin connect you need to create a segment widget or maybe you allready have that?
on that widget youll see a small gear icon on the top right corner, when you click that you can select strava segments

Hi - many thanks for the reply - the 'widget' was already there the first time I went into connect and I have clicked the gear icon and there is no option for Strava - the only options that come up are:

    Find Segments
    List View
    Mini View
    Go to Full Page
    Remove

I have just removed the widget and then readded it to the dash board and these are still the only options?
  • have you got a strava icon in the widget ? or a connect with strava ?

i am sure that i got a connect with strava and when i clicked that i was directed to strava

if you have the questionmark in the bottom left corner try and click that and see what you get
i think you have done the connection backwards

GRUNK - thanks for your help with this. The error I was making was that I had linked my 520 to the Garmin Express App on my iPhone but it was not linked via my Garmin Express version on my laptop internet connection. The moment I linked the 520 by a cable to the my laptop/Garmin Express full internet connection it all suddenly started working and now all links and down loads segments perfectly.

My Strava run from today is not appearing in Garmina Connect

    Hello,

Very similar problem to the original poster, expect I have a Vivosmart.

Like the original poster, in Garmin Connect I do not see in the Garmin Connect Segment widget any option to add Strava, or any Strava segments etc.

However, Account Information shows that Strava has access (I linked Strava to Garma via the Strava website).

My Strava run from today is not appearing in Garmina Connect. I connected my Vivosmart to my MBP 15" Retina running OS 10.11. Didn't help.

I also disconnected Strava and Garmin from both the Garmin website and the Strava website, and then reconnected on the Strava website (there is no option for me to connect Strava on Garmin Connect) and that didn't work either.

    Thoughts?

    Connecting Strava with Garmin Connect

I am having a similar issue. I have a Forerunner 405. I have used Strava forever and I love it. However recently with the changeover to Garmin Express, suddenly my runs are not showing up on Strava even though they are showing up on Garmin Connect. I have tried disconnecting and reconnecting Strava to Garmin multiple times, however my runs still don't show up on Strava.

I read the information above. When I go to the Segments widget, the only options I have are:

    Find Segments
    List View
    Mini View
    Go to Full Page
    Remove

I can't seem to get the two connected and my runs still aren't showing up on Strava. Any help??

Unfortunately I think we're going to need to contact Garmin to get this sorted. I've sent them an email.

    I heard back from Garmina

Here is what Garmin Connect customer support said:

Strava only has the ability to read data from Garmin Connect and not send data

    So that's really disappointing.

Here is what I wrote back to Garmin:

Is there any plans to change this limitation?

Unlike my smartphone/Strava (which can use GPS) my Vivosmart cannot collect altitude information for any activities, or distance data for cycling (unless I purchase another sensor like the GSC-10 or Garmin bike computer).

The lack of GPS makes the Vivormsart's calories expended calculation much less accurate than what I can get from my smartphone/Strava.

For now this means if I want to add Strava information to Garmin Connect I'm going to have to manually upload it for every activity, which is a real inconvenience.

Is there another activity tracking software platform that you are aware of that Garmin Connect and Strava can both send their data to (eg Google Fit)?

Does anyone else have any suggested solutions? What about using Tapiriik to sync Strava to Garmin Connect?
