Sync Failure 510 and iPhone 6

I get the dreaded red bar in the app and continuous connected/disconnected alerts on the 510.

Here's what I tried with no effect:

Deleted the Connect app.
Power cycled the phone.
Deleted all rides.
Power cycled the 510.
Reinstalled app.
Paired the two devices.

Sync cycles between connected and not (the red bar). At one point, unbeknownst to me, the on/off syncing process was occurring overnight which caused the battery of the 510 to be completely drained. The device would not boot up until I held the power button and lap button together while plugged in to USB.

I have the same issues with my 510 and IPhone 6 plus.

Here is what I have tried.
    1. Unpairing and re-pairing the phone and edge.
    2. Uninstalling and reinstalling GCM.
    3. Deleting all rides off the Edge.
    4. Network setting reboot of the phone.
    5. Hard reset on the Edge
    6. Hard reset on my phone and restoring through iCloud.
    7. Following all instructions exactly step by step provided in Garmin's "sticky" thread about known sync issues with the 510/810 that they closed because they think they fixed it with the 3.5 update.

I still get the "Allow/Ignore" prompt every single time on my phone when I power up my Edge. The Edge will not properly sync unless I open the GCM app on my phone and even that is hit and miss.

I have noticed that within GCM, if you look at some of the other devices like the newer Forerunners and the Vivoactive there is a process to sync the device directly to the GCM app? Why is this not an option for the Edge 510/810? The GCM app seems to be the root cause of all the issues as it is not properly auto syncing with the device as it is powered on. Why does the GCM app constantly need user input for the device and phone to sync properly?
