BUG: date/time changed when activity name edited, presumarbly due to TZ mishandling

Hello,

I have a Forerunner 620 paired to the iOS app via BT. Both the watch and the Garmin connect profile/site are set to the correct time zone (i.e. GMT+8/Singapore).
Every time I edit an activity name and save the start time of the activity is incorrectly shifted 8 hours ahead.
E.g.:
- this morning I ran at 7:48 (am). The time looks good both on the watch and on the website
- I changed the activity name on the mobile app and saved it (the app does not allow to change date/time)
- the activity time was now set at 15:48. I had to go on the website an manually change it back
- this is consistent; including changing the time of the activity multiple times adds +8 hours every time

Please advlse. Thanks

I have the exact problem! This didn't happen in last week, although activities synced via Bluetooth after updated to Garmin Connect Desktop, the time will be shifted 8 hours ahead! I now only use Mobile Connect to view activities, not dare to edit anything! Garmin please fix it ASAP!!!
  • This has been an issue for me for a while now. This behavior is consistent with my current (920xt) and previous devices (vivosmart and fenix2).

Is there a known workaround besides manually fixing via the website? Are there plans to implement a fix?

I have the same problem when I edit my 920xt activities in GC IOS, except it subtracts 8 hours. It does not happen when I edit in desktop GC, and like others, the data auto-synched to Strava is correct regardless of editing in GC IOS or desktop.

Yep, same here (FR220 and vivosmart).

I let the run upload via the app in the background, then edit the name and add my shoes in safari mobile instead. It's annoying and i hope they fix it soon. Along with adding shoes to the mobile app.
  • This problem occurs when a ride is automatically uploaded via Bluetooth on my iPhone 5 to Garmin Connect and then edited via the mobile app. I just completed a trainer session with uploading from my Edge 1000 via BT. Before I edited the title with the mobile app, I looked at the ride on my desktop. The time was correct. I them made my edit on the phone and Gamin Connect changed the time to minus 5 hours. It's a Garmin Connect problem, which adjusts rides to GMT. I'm sure Garmin is aware of it, but just when it will be fixed is anyone's guess.
  • How can this seriously not still be fixed!!!!!!!!!????????

Today's app update (Version 2.9) still not fixed the problem!
  • Hi All,

I first noticed this bug at the end of 2014, it effected my uploads via BT from my Garmin Edge 510. I contacted Garmin support and had emails back and forward with them. It included providing a heap of diagnostic stuff. Since then I have been waiting for an update to fix this issue. Now I read from the post above it isn't fixed. WTF Garmin?! This is one of the key features of the GC Mobile app.

Since discovering this I have been uploading via USB on my computer. Times are then correct. Can't believe they haven't fixed it with the latest update.

    Best to all,
    Paul
  • Hey Ray (DC Rainmaker),
Next time you talk with these guys can you shake some trees?
This may seem like a minor inconvenience but it really is a PITA.
Isn't embarrassing in the least for Garmin that users have diagnosed what is going on, given them information, and then they release an update with no fix to what APPEARS to be a simple issue (albeit a PITA for the end user)!
    Whatever!
I try so hard to keep a positive attitude and support these guys (Garmin) but it gets hard in times like these ..........

EDIT: Looks like they quickly yanked that update so maybe they will make it right. Wishful thinking?
Wonder what that means for those that got 2.9? I suppose they'll just make it version 2.1 or 2.91?
  • Hmm, odd. I don't see it myself (and I change timezones about 2-3 times a week). Any chance that your iPhone is using manual time overrides (mine is network time)?
