I have just bought today a Garmin Vivofit to pair it with the iPhone 5s and was frustated to find the Connect App is not currently supporting Sleep Data export to Health App (healthkit). The App currently writes Steps, Calories, ..., so would not be too difficult to add the Sleep data too. One of the main reasons of investing in the Vivofit is for Tracking Sleep automatically, was getting tired of manually entering start and end times, so please Garmin do implement this in a next Garmin Connect App update ASAP...
I'd really like the Sleep data added to the Health App via HealthKit as well. I plan on using another aggregation service to review information from a series of inputs via HealthKit and that means I'll have to keep using Sleep Cycle until the Vivosmart supports the Sleep data going into HealthKit.
I just switched from Mi Band to VivoSmart (not by my own choice, it was a present) and I'm very disappointed by the lack of communication between Health App and Garmin Connect. The Mi Band had no problems sending sleep data and steps (automatic sleep detection worked wonderfully as well). Garmin won't even collect my weight from my Withings scale (I have to use myfitnesspal for that)...that lack of communication (two ways) is a no-go for me. Garmin really needs to work on that.
I also hope that they add analysis of sleep data (deep and light sleep and awake time) and automatic sleep detection (right now I have to manually start sleeping time and turn off sleep mode when I wake up, but maybe that's just me)
I will add my thumbs up to this request! Why not share all possible data between HealthKit and GarminConnect?! Not everyone will want a Apple Watch. Shouldn't even take it into the shower... not to mention a 5 hour ride (or run) in the rain.
Just curious, but what is it you think that HealthKit is going to tell you about your sleep that GC doesn't? I don't understand the benefit to Apple HealthKit (other than as a medical data store).
Healthkit itself isn't going to tell you anything ... it's primarily a hub for apps to record and exchange health information.
My biggest problem with healthkit is it's lack of context.
As a diabetic, it may be useful for me to log my daily blood glucose readings ... but just recording the time and reading doesn't tell enough of the story... was the test before or after a meal? How long after the meal was it? Etc.
Does anyone from Garmin listen or respond in these forums?

Does anyone know if there has been any information from Garmin through any somewhat official channel about whether the sleep data will be exported into HealthKit from Garmin Connect?
I've got a number of apps outside of the Garmin ecosystem that need sleep data. To the people that didn't understand what value it adds, it adds LOTS of value because the information captured can be overlaid with data captured by other devices at the same time (or by the phone itself) to help provide better overall context.
In my case I'm currently using Sleep Cycle for capturing sleep data that goes into HealthKit and I was hoping that the new Garmin Vivosmart HR would have put the sleep data into HealthKit as well. I was very disappointed to see that Garmin still haven't come to the party regarding sleep data and HealthKit in general (there are still data duplication bugs from over 9 months ago last time I was using the Garmin device ecosystem that are still present).

Want to borrow my brick wall? It's already got a nice indentation for pounding your head against. :)
Seriously, as a software developer myself, I fully understand the need to classify & prioritize customer requests for enhancements and new functionality ... although frustrating for the end user, it's part of the business model.
