920XT won't pair with IOS 8.1

Hi All

I've just picked up the 920XT and I can't get it to pair with either my iphone 6 or 5, both running IOS 8.1.

Sometimes the connect app sees the device but won't actually get to the point of showing me the PIN number. Other times it won't see the device at all.

Is this a known bug or can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

DG

I'm having the same issue. It was all working beautifully for the first week. Then the 920 XT became "unpaired" and will not pair again with garmin connect on mobile. my garmin connect software, which worked, more or less, with my 910 won't work at all now. I spent an hour on the phone with Garmin support and they said an engineer will be back in touch. The four lines in the upper left won't open. It's as though it all froze in modern view. The watch itself seems to work just fine during a spin class. Heart rate detected. But no way will it communicate with computer or phone. Help!

Look at your phone settings and make sure your bluetooth is on. works for my iphone 6
    settings>Bluetooth>on

sync your garmin, then restore garmin to defaults, next go to garmin express and delete any devices. the reconnect as a new device. you will be able to log in as a existing account and the rest is done.

920 paired fine with iphone 6... both were on older software versions. 920 does not pair with iphone 5 now ... both are now on current 2.7 and 8.1.3 software versions, respectively. bluetooth is on both on the watch and the iphone. is there any other way to pair other than through garmin connect mobile? any other suggestions?

When a sync fails with a device that holds activity files many times it is caused by a corrupted activity file. To resolve this try the following:
    1. Make sure you are using the latest version of unit software for your device using Express and sync your activities to Connect web.
    2. Backup your activities by connecting your device directly to the computer using the supplied cable or cradle depending on the type of device you own. You can do this by copying all the files in the Activity/Activities folder located on your Garmin device to your computer's hard drive.
    3. Once the files have been successfully saved to your computer, delete them from your Garmin device.
    4. Create a new activity and attempt to sync using the latest version of Garmin Connect mobile. If a corrupted file is the cause the device should now sync without failing.

Archive your files like this and delete them from your device on a regular basis to help avoid this in the future. If you have attempted this and checked to make sure there are no known network problems on our status page I would encourage you to contact us directly to attempt further troubleshooting. Iphone not pairing with Forerunner 920XT

Never mind. Spoke with Garmin & you don't pair (or re-pair) the watch through the settings/Bluetooth menu on the phone - do it through the Garmin Connect app & works fine.

Sir, how did you do it through the Garmin Connect App? I have the Iphone that has iOS 8.3 version but it is not connecting. I paired it initially with my Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and it was a piece of a cake. Upon turning on the bluetooth of both devices, the Garmin Forerunner 920XT easily detect my adroid phone and connected instantly...unfortunately, it didn't happen to my iphone 4.

Im having the same issue and I've tried everything mentioned here, short of taking it back... Any recommendations? Bluetooth is turned on, I've reset to default and there's no existing activities, yet it still wont pair with the Connect app on my iPhone that has the most recent update. Any ideas because this is pretty frustrating to have to rely on connecting everything to Connect via laptop...

Search the iOS forum for threads about iOS 10 and you will notice, that some users have the same issue, while others have no issues at all. I for example updated my company iPhone 5 and GCM works as expected. My private iPhone 6s still runs iOS 9.3.5 and GCM works error free too.

Garmin will need to update GCM as it seems, as many other vendors need to update their apps too. I for example got a confirmation of the vendor of my guitar amp simulation, that it is not iOS 10 compatible yet.

There are two possible solutions for you: First try if resetting the iPhone's network settings helps. If not, you can reset the iPhone to iOS 9.3.5 with iTunes and wait, until 10.1 is released or a GCM update. If you google for iOS 10 issues, you will notice, that WiFi and Bluetooth issues are not uncommon.

Conclusion: Never again install a new OS before the first update is released!
  • There's something else going on here. I have a 920XT, iPhone 6S and iOS 10 and there are no problems. Despite our naysayer above, while there may be issues with other devices, there appear to be no compatibility issues with this set up.

Have you followed the instructions to connect with GCM to the letter? As already noted, with the 920XT, pairing is done through GCM NOT through iOS. Make sure you have removed the device from GCM, Forget it from iOS then try again.

The same applies for my VAHR and my company iPhone 5, but that doesn't mean, that others can't have issues, that are unsolvable currently.

Such crap happened with the release of iOS 8 & 9 too and now again with 10 ... and I don't mean Garmin problem, but issues in general. Some users had/have issues, that require an update ... in some cases an app update and in some cases an iOS update.

Time will tell about GCM ... which update(s) will be needed to solve the Garmin issues.
