Activity syncs to iPhone but displays "network connection error" for heart rate

iPhone 5s, iOS 8.1 (but it has done it since maybe iOS 7), Garmin Connect version 2.7.0.12, Vivofit

My activities seem to sync okay, as distance, calories, etc., all are visible on the Garmin Connect app and online.
However, when I select the option to view heart rate on the iPhone, it just displays "network connection error."
When I look at the Garmin Connect website, I see
- heart rate graph displayed under "recent activities" (so I know the data is there).
- but, in the activities list, it shows no activities.

My wife's account seems to be working fine, so it seems to be related to my account, not the software? Has anyone else seen this behavior recently?
