Connect Mobile app stays running in background even when turned off

There’s something odd going on with this app. Normally when I use an app that has “Location Services” turned on (like Maps), the location services icon at the top of the iPhone will turn off when I close the app. This is not the case with Garmin Connect. It somehow appears to remain secretly running in the background. I can’t detect the app with the Application Monitor or Battery apps, but the location services icon stays on, even after I close every single app on my phone. If I turn "Location Services" off for just the Garmin Connect app, the icon disappears from the top of the phone. When I turn "Location Services" back on for the app, even when the app itself is not running, the icon comes back.

I have even closed all apps and then powered the phone down. When I turned the phone back on, I got the prompt “Turn on Bluetooth to allow Connect to Connect to Accessories.” Now why would I get that prompt when the Garmin Connect app supposedly had been turned off? This is creepy. Anyone else noticing this?
  • Yep. GC is using location services despite being closed down.
Location services icon top right says on. Settings-Privacy-Location Services says that GC is the only app using it.
Double click home button and swipe up to close GC... still on.
Full power down and power on... still on.

I'm turning off location services for GC mobile. Does it need it for any reason?

I didn't get the 'turn on bluetooth' prompt.
  • I can't think of any reason to keep location services turned on for the app either.
