vivofit, step counter not accurate

Former Member

I just purchased a vivofit , yesterday.
and I don't believe the step counter is accurate. For example, I walked from one room of my apartment to the other, MAYBE 20 steps, and it logged it as 46, then another 20 to the kitchen, and it said 99 steps. is this a known problem.?
is there something I should do, that I haven't.?
or do I need to return this.?

Thanks for any help

    Hi

I have experienced same issue. This morning before I got out of bed, I'd walked 315 steps!?!? Then I got out of bed, took a shower and sat down for breakfast. I'd walked 800 meters (!!!) according to the vivofit. Our house is not that big!

Later when walking on the golf course, I noticed that it jumps eg from 10439 to 10444 when I walked only one step, other time it counts 2-3 steps per one step. This is really unreliable and random numbers I'm recording.

Not worth the money if it is not accurate

    Best regards

I have the same issue since I got it a few months ago, never trust it and know I am not taking the steps it says I am, how does it work, is one step one step or does it vary depending on settings ? I think I should just return for a new one or my money back.

Please respond Garmin, why is this happening, is it faulty ?

    Thanks, Mike

I bought my vivofit today and was pretty disappointed when I realised the step tracker was highly inaccurate. I was driving in my car and apparently walked 200 odd steps... I was then cooking dinner and the same thing. But there was also times that I was stepping and it wasn't registering. Very disappointed, I was tossing up between this one and another but chose this one because of the brand (I had never heard of the other brand).

I have a vivofit and enjoy it. Everyone has to understand that it is a step counter and it works by recording movement. For instance crappy step counters will count while you bump into things and count steps...others just count steps by brushing your teeth. The vivofit is the more accurate devices I have seen. You have to give it a chance and understand that it will be accurate over time. While sometimes it has gathered information by walking around the house, it will gather better information while you are getting out of the house and doing things. What I don't understand is that if you can use the ant+ to use the heartrate monitor...why can't you use the footpod? That would vastly increase the accuracy of the step counter. I have a fenix2 and while indoors it is within 97-99% accurate while using my footpod.
