Red inactivity bar won't reset.

I have noticed a couple of problems with my new vivofit. First, I noticed the red inactivity bar was on and after walking around for an hour or so doing some work around the house that the bar didn't reset. Second, my device wouldn't sync with my I phone so I re-paired the device with my phone.
Is it possible that this unit is defective.

    I am having the same difficulty. I've read elsewhere in the forums that it can take up to 200 consecutive steps to reset the red inactivity bar. So I walked over 400. The red bar flashed encouragingly after I walked, and then went right back to solid red as soon as I stood still for 2 minutes. Not sure what the problem is...
