Why is this app so terrible?

If anyone at Garmin is listening, pretty please make a mode that just downloads your ride from your Edge without having to first spend hours downloading all your rides from Connect. All I want the app to do is suck it from my Edge and stick it online. I don't care about any other feature, well except for I want it to happen fast. It should take seconds to upload a < 1MB .fit file, not 10s of minutes.

Unfortunately, I don't foresee a simplified version of the app being developed, as a need for one has not been widely requested.

However, you are welcome to submit your idea here.
  • The bug you are adressing is already reported here: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?70091-LowMemory-CRASH
When that bug is fixed, you will need to download your activities once and they will stay there.
The upload of activities takes a couple of seconds on my iPhone when connected to a 3G or LTE network. When connected to a 2G/Edge network it can take about 30sec. This is as long as I have downloaded everything first. With the fixes mentioned in the thread linked above, you should quite satisfied.

And FYI: The app does work. It starts, lists all activities and can integrate with some of Garmins devices.
  • Ummm.......... with all due respect, the Garmin Mobile App SUCKS.
Sorry, but it just plain does.
It will open and then crash from time to time.
It does re-download all activities almost every time you open it.
And it does take forever and a day to download rides unless your only doing an extremely short ride.
    It's just plain no good.
It honestly pains me to take this turn in attitude toward Garmin but I just think they have too many "irons in the fire" to give proper support to all of these products they have.
    Whatever.

The new version of the app came out today. It appears to fix the problem of taking forever to download (or redownload) older activities and then crashing. It took Garmin a long time to do it, but the new app looks good at first blush.
  • Damn'it! I knew I should not have set my iPhone to auto-update apps!
    Garmin Mobile updated.
Live Track now does not work!
It worked yesterday with the previous version.
    Today ....... no go.
Maybe b/c my 810 is on FW 2.8 but I doubt it.
Garmin ............ you never cease to amaze!
I'm still at the starting line!

I can't get it to show me any more than my last three activities. What a piece of junk. At least the old version would show me my older activities.

FUJI_RACER: Some Garmin Connect Mobile v2.0 users encountered an issue where their iOS device would crash when LiveTrack was selected. Should you encounter this issue, please follow these steps to correct it:

    1. Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-left corner of the app.
    2. Tap the "x" in the corner of the Garmin Connect Mobile app.
    3. Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
    4. Press the Home button.
    5. Go to the App Store.
    6. Search for "Garmin Connect Mobile" and download it again.

This should correct this issue. In some situations, rebooting both the iOS and Garmin devices may be necessary.

KAFOLSKE: The "Activities" widget on the Garmin Connect Mobile "Home" screen displays the last three activities. However, you can view older activities by tapping on the "View All" button located on the bottom of the widget.
  • GCMSUPPORT: When I tap on "View All", I see a page that says: "Go to Getting Started connect.garmin.com/.../start....". None of my previous six years of data is shown. If I pull down to refresh, I briefly see a list of activities, but the view instantly reverts to the Getting Started page. I have removed the app and re-installed, but that didn't fix it either.
