Using IOS and Android together with Garmin Connect

Hi,

I have been using Garmin Connect for almost 8 years now, with 2 different watches and 1 Edge 830. I may say I am content with the experience so far, not getting so much from the app itself but using other apps like Strava etc. The lssue i have with the VO2Max lately, I have 2 mobile phones and a double sim due to some business purposes I use both of the phones from time to time. I cannot tell exactly if this is happening or not but somehow the connect app doesnt seem to measure my metrics correctly or doesnt act like it is collecting data at all. I can see my activity history at both of the phones very accurately, and for a person who is at least training 5 days a week, there are no beneficial metric changes or even any warnings that i am overtraining, or gaining nothing for example due to my current training regime, nothing at all.. So I wonder is this because i am using 2 phones with the equipment and app itself..

  • Note that you must sync the Edge 830 (and the watches) before each time you use it to not mess up the metrics. If you use before it downloaded the metrics from Garmin Connect then it will do its calculations with stale data. Make sure you see the same metrics on the Edge as on the watches before you start a new ride. If the metrics get messed up then you just have to continue to train and sync and eventually those metrics will be so old that they no longer affects the current values. It will take a few weeks.

The metrics are calculated on the devices. The phone apps are just for syncing the data to the Garmin Connect backend. You might experience sync issues using multiple phones since the devices are not designed to be connected to multiple phones, but that doesn't affect the metrics. The data you see in the apps are the data pulled from the servers. The apps are basically just viewers of data. So, you should see the exact same data in both phones.

Which metrics are you looking at when looking for beneficial metric changes? The most obvious metric is VO2 max. What does the 4 week VO2 max graph look like? Note that you only get VO2 max values from outdoor running and walking and for cycling VO2 max values a power meter is required. Note that an accurate max HR is required to get good values. Max HR can't be calculated. It must be measured.

Another metric that I look at a lot is Training Load. It shows if you are training hard enough. When my training is going well I'm above 1000. Anything below that usually means that I'm in recovery or are sick or injured.

Post those graphs and any other data that you think is relevant. Also, which watches do you use? Not all watches support all metrics and use the same algorithms to calculate them.
