Feature Request: Offline Sync & Local Data Cache for Garmin Connect App

Dear Garmin Development Team,

I am a proud owner of a Garmin Enduro 2, a device I specifically chose for its incredible autonomy and reliability during extended off-grid activities. However, I am writing to request a crucial update to the Garmin Connect App to align the software experience with the hardware's extreme capabilities.

Currently, if the smartphone lacks an active internet connection, the Garmin Connect App becomes practically non-functional. It is impossible to sync new data from the watch to the phone, and attempting to view any historical data results in a "loading error."

While I understand that data can be viewed directly on the watch, navigating complex metrics and historical trends is much more efficient on a smartphone screen. The current cloud-dependent architecture contradicts the core philosophy of the Enduro series—a super-autonomous device designed for prolonged periods away from civilization.

I kindly request the implementation of the following offline features in the Garmin Connect App:

  • Local Device-to-App Synchronization: Allow the watch to sync its current data via Bluetooth directly to the smartphone's local storage. The app can queue this data and upload it to Garmin servers once an internet connection is re-established.

  • Offline Historical Data Cache: Implement a local cache within the app based on previously downloaded data, allowing users to review their past activities, health metrics, and trends without needing a live server ping.

Enabling the app to function offline would dramatically improve the user experience for mountaineers, hikers, and ultra-endurance athletes who frequently operate outside of cellular coverage.

Thank you for your time and for continuing to build outstanding hardware. I hope to see the software match this level of off-grid independence soon.

Best regards, Stepahn M

Not to mention the service members which may not have access to a date connection for weeks at a time and we may run out of storage on the watch. I dont know how many days worth of day to day data the watch can store, along with workout data.

On most watch models, couple of years, if not decades. Instinct models (except of I3 AMOLED) have the smallest memory, but even those will hold for months.

For a limited offline functionality, have a look at the Garmin Explore app. There are also some 3rd party programs that can help with some of the offline data analysis - i.e. Golden Cheetah.

Otherwise, I recommend suggesting it to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin
