Apple Fitness looses workout efforts every time I open Garmin Connect.

Everytime I open Garmin Connect on the phone the Apple Fitness looses manually set efforts from Garmin synced workouts. This does not happen with Withings, Strava, Zwift nor Suunto apps, so this is a Garmin Connect bug. Is there a workaround for this? I kinda want to buy a Cirqa, but if the Connect overwrites the efforts every time I open the app it is not sustainable and I’d rather go with Polar Loop or even Whoop.

  • I’m just getting into Garmin with recently buying an Explore 2. I was previously using my phone as a bike computer but battery was taking a beating.

Is this something new that you’ve noticed where it wasn’t doing that before?

I’d really like to just have the connect app upload the workout data but the fact that I have to go back and re rate every ride I’ve done in the past if I want to see my training load in the fitness app is less than ideal.

I love using the dedicated bike computer but this issue is very frustrating.

  • Here is a great troubleshooting article for the app incorrectly syncing the data: Garmin Connect Data Is Not Syncing Over to My Third-Party App

If the issues still persists, can you please provide the type of activity that this is occurring on, as well as is this happening with every activity recorded or a specific one?

  • I have tried this before and even after the most recent update the issue still persists.

All of my cycling rides sync to Apple Fitness and this is step by step of what I see.

    1) Finish ride and update activity with gear and Self Evaluation rating

    2) View ride in Apple Fitness and activity doesn’t receive evaluation for ride (Apple Fitness lists this as Effort Rating)

    3) Update the activity in Apple Fitness and add an Effort Rating

    4) Complete another ride as mentioned in Step 1

    5) Most recent ride does not receive Self Evaluation as mentioned in Step 2 and any previous ride synced from Garmin Connect now shows nothing for Effort Rating in Apple Fitness

Step 5 is the issue. It’s fine that Garmin and Apple can’t figure out the evaluation/effort rating but why does the most recent ride clear the Apple Fitness rating on any previous ride that was synced from Garmin Connect. As mentioned in the other topics with this issue, it shouldn’t change anything unless there was something changed specifically on that activity.

I’ve since stopped syncing from Garmin Connect due to this issue and I’m currently letting Strava do that since that doesn’t clear my effort rating in Apple Fitness with each sync.

  • same here, been this way since the launched connect sync to apple health

  • Can confirm this is still happening.

i thought maybe even setting an effort in Garmin App would sync that to Apple Fitness, that didn’t work either. I see the load in Garmin but not Apple Fitness.

  • I gave up on having Garmin Connect do anything with Apple Fitness since it seems that Garmin couldn’t care less. I’ve switched to using the Intervals Companion app. I have Garmin Connect sync to that and then Intervals uploads to Apple Health/Fitness. I get to see even more info this way and my effort ratings don’t clear with each sync.

  • Thanks for this, starting using this since you mentioned it.

    Everything is good now.
