Only one distance badge can be earned per activity. Surpassing the required distance for a badge in excess may change the badge being awarded.
So in your case a 4‑mile run surpasses the 1‑mile badge distance, qualifies for the 5K badge, and because Garmin only awards one distance badge per activity, the Milestone (1-mile) badge is skipped and the 5K badge is awarded. To earn the 1‑mile badge, you need to record a Run activity that is more than 1.00 mile but less than 3.10 miles.
