Cannot sync Courses to Edge 530 (Connect v5.23)

For the last week or so, none of the changes I have been making to Courses have been syncing across to my Garmin Edge 530.

Generally I create my Courses in Strava and they sync effortlessly.

I am running the latest version of the Garmin Connect app (5.23) and my Garmin Edge 530 is fully updated via Garmin Express.

When I look under “Courses” in the iOS Garmin Connect app, I can see all my recent changes/new courses etc, but they flat refuse to sync across to my Garmin itself.

I have tried the following:

  • Multiple re-syncs
  • Power down and power on again
  • Connect to computer and Sync via Garmin Express
  • Export both .gpx and .tcx files, placing these in the NewFiles folder when connected to the computer… they disappear on Eject & Reboot (as you'd expect) but don't appear in on the 530
  • I even converted the .gpx file to a .fit file and dropped that directly into the /Courses folder on my Garmin, but it doesn't appear on the device
  • “Send to device” option from iOS Connect app > Courses. It looks like it's done it (“Ready to roll” and “Will appear on Syncing”) but no. It's not there.
  • Favouriting the new courses I've created, that appear in the app but not on the device
  • Unpairing Garmin Edge 530 from iPhone and starting all over again from scratch, setting up afresh

Nothing has worked!! I've got a 2-weeks old view of courses on my Garmin Edge 530 and nothing I do will update it to what I see in the Garmin Connect app and on Strava.

Help!!

  • How many courses do you already have on your Edge? Most Garmin devices have a limit of 100 courses, so if you already reached that limit, you may need to delete some.

  • Oh my god that's it!! I just counted and I have exactly 100 courses on my Garmin!! Thank you so much. Given that they're synchronising across from Strava, I'm guessing I need to delete them there (or would un-starring them work)?

  • I can confirm that it's working again. You can't just un-star Routes on Strava, nor can you remove them from the Connect App, in the hope that they'll be removed from the device upon the next sync. You have to physically delete each of the Courses from the device itself! But at least it's allowing new courses over, now.

  • Delete them on the watch. I guess unstarring in Strava should be sufficient.

  • It's not. They need physically deleting from the device itself.

  • That's what I wrote Wink Delete them from the watch. On Strava removing them from the starred courses should be sufficient to prevent them from syncing back again.

  • Ah yes, I understand what you meant now – I can keep them on Strava, and un-starring them will prevent them from re-syncing over, *after* I've deleted them from the device.. Thank you for the heads up – you made my day! Heart eyes
