Activity not syncing in Connect app

Hello, 

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 5 and have used it issue-free for coming up on 2 years. However, in the last 7 days, I've had 3 activity sessions not sync to the app, but they do appear on the device itself. I've tried turning device and phone off and on, re-pairing Bluetooth, reconnecting wireless, even uninstalling and reinstalling the app but to no avail. I've read on the forums of people mentioning that maybe those .fit files are corrupted but don't know how to fix that (one of the links in another post requires fee to get a license to repair the files). Anyone have any thoughts on how I can get these 3 activities to sync in the app? Thanks in advance. 

  • Typically, you would upload the fit file from the device to Garmin Connect Web - How Do I Manually Upload an Activity I Recorded to Garmin Connect?. Then, if you get errors, you could post the fit file here or attempt to repair it yourself with a 3rd-party app, such as FIT File Viewer.

    The problem is I believe vívoactive 5 does not support Mass Storage Mode, which is the key requirement for those steps to work. Mass Storage Mode allows you to attach your Garmin to a computer with the USB data cable, browse the file system of the watch and therefor access the .fit files in question.

    My suggestion is that if you have a PC or Mac computer, install Garmin Express and see if you have better luck getting those activities uploaded. Also, contact Garmin Support to see if they can offer any other suggestions. Likely they would have you reset the watch to factory defaults to clear out any corruption and hopefully reduce the chances of this happening again.

  • Thank you! I did try to upload the fit file to Garmin Connect Web but for these three files in particular, I get an error message saying "One of your files was not accepted by the system. Please contact Support for assistance." When I try to upload other files (that had already synced to Garmin Connect), I get a message that says "This file has already been uploaded", which they were, so it seems like if I had a regular fit file that worked, it may upload with no problem. I canGarmin Activity.zip try to download Garmin Express and in the meantime, I've also attached a zip file with those 3 fit files. Thanks again!

  • The activity fit files you've attached are rediculously small even for the shortest of activities. Opening the files in FIT File Viewer shows that there is a lot of data missing. 

    I don't beleive these activities are salvagable, Suggest doing a factory reset of the watch.
