iOS 18.6.2 background data sync Fenix 7 Standard

I have moved to iPhone 16 from Android and I am experiencing sync issues. It looks like the background service stops syncing. I am loosing actual data on my Connect App's Home screan. I have to manualy sync data. Another consequence is that watches stops to display weather data on display.

I have reseted watches to factory settings, checked Background App Refresh. Everything looks ok from the side of user settings.

This is really annoying and never had this problem on Android device.

My Fenix 7 has firmware 22.06 and iPhone 16 iOS 18.6.2

Anybody else is having these issues?

Thank you in advance and have a nice day

Petr

  • Make sure that Garmin Connect always got location access to make the weather work.

If you force close an app on iPhone it will stay closed. On Android it will automatically start a background process if needed. So, never force close the Garmin Connect app on iPhone. Don't do it on Android either since it will just automatically start again.

  • Yes, maybe that's the point. I am just used to close all the apps in the backgroud. But it is strange, because I receive push notifications, and sometimes it sync without started application. It is really strange.

  • I am facing the similar issue with garmin forerunner 965 with iPhone. Weather information was working fine in my garmin device till September even when I close the Connect app.

I was able to get the weather info in my device display even without the connect app open , as the background app refresh was enabled.

But past 10 days this is not working as earlier. Only If the app is open, then I get the wether data in my device. I raised support case with garmin, they requested to upgrade the garmin app. After which it was working without any issue for 6 hours,  when then I stepped outside for few hours and got back home the issue started again.

Waiting for the update from Garmin support.

  • Facing a similar issue after moving from Android to iPhone17. Reading these comments I enabled “always” location permissions in the Connect app settings, hopefully it will work as it is really annoying.

  • Did the Issue fixed after enabling the "always" location permission ?

  • Still not sure. I think it does look a little better, but not sure yet.

  • Connect on iOS app must remain open in the background unfortunately. This is due to Apple restrictions.

  • Force closing the Garmin Connect app on iOS will prevent it from running in the background, and may cause features like weather, smart notifications, and sync-related functions (e.g., auto-sync activities, steps, updates) to not function properly.

Background App Refresh allows the Garmin Connect app to update content from the internet when the app is running in the background, but the app still needs to be actually open in the background.
