Garmin Run Coach Plan not helping

I started a half-marathon run coach plan 25 weeks ago.  At the start, I could run 7 miles at a 9 minute pace.  The plan didn't take my starting ability into consideration, but I was pleased with the base phase, which resulted in "productive" workouts.  As soon as I hit the peak phase, however, it's only made me slower.  Week after week, it had me running slow-paced, fairly short runs.  Even my "long" running days weren't long.  I've also noticed a pattern of the plan for the week ahead including a variety of workouts changing to a short, slow run.  Five weeks before I'm supposed to run a half marathon, the Run Coach Plan has me well trained for 4-5 miles at a 10 minute pace.  Garmin Connect knows I'm not getting better, showing me as "maintaining" for the past six weeks with my endurance score trending downward.  Even the useless AI feature told me I should vary my workouts if I want to improve!  If the plan has me tapering starting in less that two week, when was I supposed to get better?  This test of the Garmin Run Coach Plan is a complete failure.  Has anyone else had this experience?

  • Could you share data you have set when you scheduled your Coach plan?
Did you set target pace for example?

  • I set a Goal Time of 1:55 with a Goal Pace of 8:47.  The phases of the plan are:

    Base: 5/5-7/6

    Peak 7/7-8/17

    Taper 8/18-8/30

    Event 8/31

I had the workout priority/metric set to heart rate.

My Training status has been "maintaining" since 6/15.

    Thank you!
