Vivoactive 5 connecting and disconnecting nonstop

I just upgraded from Apple Watch to Garmin Vivoactive 5 and the connecting and disconnecting thing is happening all the time.

I have and Iphone 14, everything is up to date, apps, phone and watch. If I have the phone on my pocket it loses the connection, if I have my phone next to me on my right side and my watch on my left side, it loses the connection. If I leave my room to go in the kitchen right next door, it loses the connection. I'm feeling frustrated because I want to love this watch so much but the disconnection thing is a huge problem. I never had connection problems with my previous watch, I could be in the basement of a house and my phone all the way up on the 3rd floor and I never lost connection... but with this one if I'm 3 feet away is lost connection. I already tried everything so I'm now waiting for the support to get back to me. Anyone with the same problem on IOS?

  • Well, Garmin watches are tuned for long battery life, and they use very low power BT broadcasting, hence I would not count with a connection over several floors with Garmin. However, 5 to 10 meters should not be a problem. I have multiple Garmin watches, and they all maintain the connection within this distance, though I have an old iPhone SE. iPhone 14 has probably more battery optimizing features, so you may need to review all BT and permissions in iOS settings for the Connect app.

Anyway, a short loss of a connection is not really a problem. If it happens for brief moments only, consider simply disabling the annoying connection alerts.

  • No I know it won't work for a long distance like my apple one.

But I wasn't expecting to not work when I'm like 2 meters away from it. It's not short, it really loses the connection until I have my phone literally on my hands. Like right now I'm sitting on a bench at the park and my phone is in my pocket and there was no connection, I got messages on my phone and it didn't show on my watch because the connection was lost and the connection just went back when I got my phone on my hands. All the permissions are on, everything is on. I'm feeling very frustrating

  • Since Garmin Connect 5.15 (the current release) my Edge loses the connection to my iPhone repeatingly. And build it up again usually seconds later. Maybe this is your issue? Either the chipset related bug or a timeout related bug. No wireless connection is permanent (circuit switching) a lost package should be re-transmitted multiple times. I would assume that as part of the Bluetooth-Protocol...well?

The bad thing is, this causes new notifications all the time. Dangerous and annoying while riding, I always think it is - a useful -  a sharp bend warning.
