One of Emergency Contacts Did Not Receive LiveTrack Beacon

I have three (3) emergency contacts programmed in to my Garmin Connect Mobile app. On a ride yesterday, only 2 of the 3 emergency contacts received my LiveTrack beacon. How do I begin to troubleshoot why the 3rd emergency contact did not receive my LiveTrack beacon?

  • Are you using text or email for the LiveTrack link?

For text message the recipient must approve the request.

For email the recipient should look in the spam folder and then create a rule in the mail application to never send mails from [email protected] to spam.

  • Hello e7andy. Thanks for your input. I am using text for the LiveTrack link. All recipients have approved the request. All recipients are listed as 'Emergency Contact' in Garmin...but only 2 of the 3 emergency contacts received the LiveTrack beacon. Any other ideas?

  • Redo the request for that recipient.

  • but only 2 of the 3 emergency contacts received the LiveTrack beacon. Any other ideas?

Unless you just mistyped, the emergency contacts will receive emergency alerts from the Incident Detection feature. For Live Track, you have to add the email adresses to the LiveTrack recipients.

  • Hello e7andy. I will give that a try. Thank you.

  • Hello trux, thank you for your input. The LiveTrack beacon is sent via text message. I have the correct telephone number listed for the emergency contact and they have already accepted the request for emergency contact. Any other ideas?

  • LiveTrack recipients and emergency contacts are not the same.

  • The LiveTrack beacon is sent via text message.

I do not know LiveTrack Beacon. I only know Garmin LiveTrack, and Strava Beacon. Which of them are you using? And LiveTrack has its own recipient list. LiveTrack sends text messages only with Garmin Connect+, and the LiveTrack contact still has to have an email address in your phone book, even in that case. So if you are using Connect+, I'd check that first.

From the documentation at Garmin Connect App LiveTrack Feature | Garmin Customer Support

NOTE: You must add your recipient's email address to their contact card on your phone. LiveTrack information can only be sent via text with Garmin Connect+. Permission to access your phone contacts must also be enabled in the app settings. Newer iOS versions require the Full Access option. To update your permission settings see: How Do I Set the Permissions for My Garmin Connect App?

  • I only know Garmin LiveTrack, and Strava Beacon.

... and then there is also the Garmin Connect Live Event Sharing which sends notifications by text messages, though that's available only on Android phones, and not all Garmin devices support it. The feature also has its own recipient list (not the emergency contacts).

  • Thank you, e7andy, for clarifying that for me. I assumed that emergency contact received the LiveTrack links. So, to clarify, how do I get all emergency contacts (3) to receive my LiveTrack link (text)?
