Active calories

Hi! Recently I saw that active calories in GC not corresponding true value. For understanding, I have several days in row for cycle training. Each workout burned about 400kcal for recovery and on weekends during volume training about 1500-1800 kcal. But in GC I see 700kcal for volume and about 180 for recovery ride... Very strange. For logging workout I'm using Garmin Edge 1050 and for all day health measuring - Garmin Marq. My physical data (height, weight etc) are correct. In workout stats I saw proper value for active calories but why this value doesn't apply to daily calories (active/passive)?

  • I think it is enough if you collect heart rate data via your watch. Worth a try to switch the WHR off and don't connect a chest strap with your watch. See what happens then. Or like e7andy suggests leave it home entirely.

I have to admit that this is guessing on my part as I never wear a watch during cycling workouts. My active calories are more or less matching between Connect and what has been recorded on the Edge.

  • Do you understand the absurdity of the situation? Garmin is famous for its ecosystem, where people have multiple wearable devices for different purposes and ultimately for communicating all this data to analyze physiological parameters in general. The point is that the period of active training should take precedence over the same period on the watch in my case and not only in my case. Leaving the watch is fundamentally the wrong decision from the point of view of the whole Garmin system. I'm sure this is a bug and it will be fixed.  Anyway, thanks for the advice, it's not for argument's sake, but it doesn't fit in my head. Moreover, there were no problems before, it appeared after one of the latest updates.

  • I'm indifferent more or less as I'm not interested in the calorie calculation by my watch or Edge. Just saying that this (how absurd it might be) is the way Garmin has designed it.

If you believe that it is a fix I would suggest to open a ticket with them (i.e. talking to support).

  • The most interesting thing is that for many years I have been mentally understanding how many calories a day I need. With or without training. But then I saw this calorie widget and noticed the discrepancy. Thank you for your responsiveness)
