Yes, I know this request has been talked about a lot but I find nothing less than a year old so I wanted to check as I just bought my grandson a new Forerunner 165 and was hoping to be able to set him up an account that only he, my son and I could see the grandsons's data for training purposes.  Has there been any change in this area for Garin Connect?  Can a Forerunner 165 be set up to run a Garmin Account for an 11-year-old?  Can I use it with the Gramin Jr. app?  Or lastly, besides lying about his age, is there anything else that can be done to use their product on their system for children?

    Garmin's policies still restrict children under 13 (in the US) or 16 from creating their own accounts due to data privacy laws.

    • In the United States, the age limit aligns with COPPA (Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act), which restricts companies from collecting data on children under 13.
    • In the European Union, the age requirement is 16 years old in some countries due to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).
    • Other countries may have different regulations, so Garmin's policies could adjust based on local laws.

    This means your grandson wouldn't be able to have a standalone Garmin Connect account. And the Garmin Jr. App is not compatible with the Forerunner 165. 

    Lying about their age online (age falsification) is generally not illegal, but it does violate Garmin's Terms of Service, potentially leading to account suspension. 

    Perhaps you've already seen this thread - Family account / child device - Need some help on device registration and user account. Some users have suggested creating a separate "family" Garmin Connect account, in your name and adding the device to it. This way, your grandson can use the watch without his data merging into your personal account. Then when turning the appropriate age, then can create their own account.

    Otherwise, you can submit a request on the Garmin Ideas page. Possibly suggesting that Garmin make it easier to create a supervised account for minors with devices that are not necessarily intended to be used by a minor.
