Connect+ first experiences

First of all I would like everyone to stop nagging and complaining. If you don't like what you get stop paying for it. If you are here because you want Garmin to give you better products give better feedback.

So here is the Connect+ Active Intelligence Beta. As a Garmin user I do like to try new stuff so why not.

In general I think it's a good idea to have a technique like AI contribute to my training quality and also some fun. I tried Strava AI as well and it gets boring after a little while. For me it's not woth the spending on a paid Strava subscription. You also would expect less quality AI from an indirect data processor, assuming Garmin has more data.

As most testers my first impression is that this is just too little value for money. But... I did get at least one AI advice that made sense. And no it's a misunderstanding that AI is able to bring you infinite good advice. A good AI system or machine learning tool may give you valuable advice just every now and then.

This is what happened. I start with a 1km warm-up, then 1km tempo, then an uphill moderate sprint and then some walking with exercises, and then some training steps and then two more sprints and finishing with a 3km cool down. Garmin AI entirely misses the part where I walk and do exercises like stretching and stuff. It also misses the tempo and sprints. Strave however sees the tempo changes and also makes the remark "interesting interval work". Sure Strave won't recognise me touching my toes but at least it sees something.

Then this one..

A few days before Garmin detected unbalanced Ground Contact Time and gave the advice to do strength training. I had already started strength training so this one already came a few days later. This one I think is valuable and off course not detected by Strava as they don't have this data.

Final one..

Garmin sees just another run. Agreed I did not write anything about me feeling a bit ill but hey... Garmin should be able to read this from the data I'm providing. To be honest Strava did not see it either, but it sneaky read my remarks to my friends and used my text statement in their AI feed back  Sweat smile

Back to the question if Connect+ is worth the money. For the moment I would say no, but the GCT remark was very useful. One or two of these comments on a monthly base could realy improve my running. I know that Garmin has the right data. In the past I discovered an achilles injury by checking my GCT myself but I am sure AI can do this better and more proactive.

Hope for more!
