fenix 6x grade issue after 28 update

Hey,

I've been a Fenix user for 8 years now and Garmin Service have swapped 6 of the 5x for me because the grade and/or altimeter were not working properly. So a few years back they offered me my money back or 6x. I took the new 6x back then and miraculously it worked. But then with every second update the grade meter would continuously jump from the actual grade to zero back and forth and staying on zero for long periods. I need to point out that this happened on the regular climbs, where the previous 6x OS version worked just fine grade-wise. So I used to wait for the new update, tested it, the grade worked, and so I immediately turned off the auto update and I was good for at least 2 years now, grade working perfectly.

But then a few weeks back Garmin connect was not syncing and I said to myself, well by now the grade must be working in all the updates. So in hoping that the update would cause sync to work, I did the WORST mistake a sportsman can do, and that is I updated the watch. So ever since the 28 or the latest 28.02 OS updates, the grade is again jumping to zero mid-climb where the previous OS just worked fine.

Can anyone please share some knowledge as to work this out and fix it. I mean, this is just ridiculous of Garmin.

  • Try asking on the Fenix 6 forum (this one is for the iOS Connect app). Not sure whether your issue is really related to the firmware version, but other users of the same model can either confirm or exclude it. It could be also your watch malfuctioning, for example due to dirt or moisture in the altimeter sensor port. I'd also suggest checking the SNS / |Sensor Hub version on the System » About screens on the watch, and check whether it is recent. If it shows 0.00, then you'll need to re-apply the firmware update. And if you find it is really a software problem that other users experience too, then you can downgrade the firmware to an older version. Ask on the F6 forum for instructions.
