Body fat percentage

Hi,

When will Garmin introduce the option to record body fat percentage and include that in the wellbeing/fitness age calcs? Only accounting for the BMI is very disadvantageous for people with slightly higher muscle mass.

I take weight and body fat percentage measurements every day and I end up using Garmin Connect plus a spreadsheet, just because Gamin Connect doesn't have an option to record body fat percentage. It's quite frustrating.

Thanks

  • If you buy the Garmin Index Scale, it measures and records it for you

  • Yes, I see that, but I don’t want to buy one. I already have a scale that measures body fat percentage Grin

You can either enter it manually, or use a 3rd party app for the automation. Some scales can be synced to GC through MyFitnessPal, and there is also another more universal paid app for syncing scales data to diverse platforms, GC including. I do not use it, and do not remember its name, but I do not think it would be difficult to google it, if nobody peeks in here and posts the link to it.

As for the manual entry, you can import the Body Fat % with a simple CSV file in Garmin Connect Web at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/import-data

This is a sample CSV file:

    Body
    Date,Weight,BMI,Fat
    "2022-11-03","71.6","22.6","14.4"

There can be multiple lines of data, but the first 2 header lines appear just once. Use a plain-text editor such as Notepad for creating the file. Do not use any rich-text editors like Word or Wordpad. And avoid Excel.

  • Thank you. that seemed to have worked in terms of importing the data, but the body fat doesn't seem to be displayed properly and now i have to weight records for each day... I'd still very much prefer having the option of input the body fat percentage when I add the weight in.

    Thanks again for the suggestion!

Not sure what you mean. On my side the body fat % displays exactly like I enter it.

now i have to weight records for each day...

Again, I do not understand what you mean, but you can enter a new value whenever you want, no need to do it daily.

As I wrote, you can do it by entering the weight and the body fat into the CSV file, and import it. Or you can use MyFintessPal, which will sync it to Garmin. Many scales can interface with MFP directly, though if you prefer, you can enter it manually too.

  • Thanks, trux,

Apologies, typo on my side. I meant that after the import, I have two rows of values for each day, as if I'd recorded measurements twice per day. No the end of the world.

thanks again for the suggestions. I don't want to install a different app. I already have a scale that does what I need and I am already manually recording one body measurement value (weight) in my Garmin Connect app, so I just want to be able to add one more value (the %) at the same time.

Yes, I know that you want it, but unfortunately your only options are either importing the data with a CSV file, or using a 3rd party app. Garmin Connect app supports only their own devices, and it is unlikely to change.

BTW, that seems to work all right, on my side:
