Inconsistent calories when workout is recorded on non-primary device

I believe this has been reported, but the previous post is locked and I can't answer.

The problem: I own several devices, my primary device is a Fenix 8 51mm AMOLED watch, the other devices are an Edge 530 and an Edge 540 (all with latest firmware as of Jan 3, 2025). Whenever I record a workout on any of the Edge devices, the active calories are not synced to Garmin Connect (both web and phone apps), neither to the Fenix 8. Instead of syncing the active calories, both Fenix and Connect show some sort of estimated active calories, which are way off compared to the active calories shown on Edge.

The recorded activity appears in my Connect feed and if I go to the activity details, there the active calories appear to be correct.

Initially I suspected the problem might be that I have Move IQ enabled on the Fenix 8, and I was wearing the watch when cycling with the Edge. However, I did some workouts without the watch (left the watch at home on the charger) and the problem persists.

Garmin, I believe you need to ensure active calories recorded on any device overwrite any calorie estimates.

Garmin does not really follow this forum. You better contact them directly. We can only tell you how it is designed, and how you can work around it.

So, the design is such, that as long as the Primary Wearable Device (your F8) is worn, the data (Calories, but also some others) from it overrides the data from any other device(s). You can work around it either by leaving the watch off the wrist, or by recording the activity with it too (connecting the HRM and all sensors to it too). You can then discard the activity from Edge, to avoid the duplicate.

The first method is simpler, but causes other problems (i.e. no data for Body Battery, since Edge does not support that feature). So the second method is recommended.

You can also suggest a change to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin, but do not have high hopes for any quick change.
