Ads started showing up in Connect App

Just before New Year’s, annoying ads started showing up in Connect when starting up. How do I turn this off!!! Terrible. We pay hundreds of dollars for our devices, this isn’t ad-supported freeware. I went through all the settings and don’t see a way to suppress. There have been threads about this in the past here in the forum, but it only just started happening on my phone a few days ago. This would make me want to stop using Garmin.

  • I do not see any ads in Garmin Connect, and never did. You only get a prompt asking you to pair a device, if the pairing was lost by your phone, or after reinstalling the app. Could you post a screenshot of the ad you are receiving?

  • Honest! For three days I’ve been getting pop-up ads for Garmin products when I first open the App for the day. Watch bands, watches, sale items. They take up the top 1/2 of the screen and I have to X out of them. I’m not making this up!!! Once I clear the ad, everything is normal. There are some locked threads about this I found here on the forum, some from 2 years ago, some more recent.

  • The cases I saw on this forum were about the case I described - lost pairing, or a reinstall of the app, hence the app asked to connect a device. Personally, I never saw anything else than that. If you do, please make a screenshot a post it here.

  • OK, will see if it happens again tomorrow and will post. Here is a link to one of the other threads: https://forums.garmin.com/apps-software/mobile-apps-web/f/garmin-connect-mobile-ios/315480/annoying-advertising

  • Yes, on my mind it is the case I mentioned - lost pairing, new installation, or perhaps it can sometimes happen even after an app update. It is not an advertisement, but a suggestion to pair a device. At least, in the many years I use Garmin Connect, I never saw anything else than that. If you post a screenshot when it happens again, we can hopefully see better what exactly you experience.

  • Dokey - see below. Pretty sure an ad to save 20% on watch bands is not a device paring issue. Once I X out, I don’t see it again until the next day. Not a new install or a new device, Everything works great, I have live HR, steps, can record a run, all good. The ads just started happening a few days before the New Year. Garmin 100% pushing these onto my Connect app, You can see the ad moved down my “At a Glance” tiles. I can even scroll up and down to see my stats, drill into the tiles, but when I come back the ad is still there until I X out.

  • That huge ads are popping up every day is a nuisance. Having it pop up maybe maximum once per week or just a few times per month would probably be ok. And if you close an ad for 20% on watch bands then you are obviously not interested in that so that particular ad should not be display at all again.

Report to Garmin Support that they pop up too often: https://support.garmin.com

  • Strange, I never saw anything like that on any of my phones (I use both an iPhone and an Android phone). I tried to see in the user settings, whether there is some option that could make the difference, but so far I did not find any.

  • Thanks. Product Support is looking into it, not clear to them where this was coming from either, LOL! I don't think it should be EVER, unless I opt in (or can opt out). I closed the X on the watch bands, and got the same ad today, so clearly not tracking my behavior or interests either. But wow, if Garmin support doesn't know about ads pushed to Connect, that isn't great. This is clearly some kind of marketing program within Garmin. But why just me? Why aren't there dozens of posts from other people? Like I linked above, apparently this was similar to something 2 years ago.

  • But why just me?

I did see a similar screenshot in this thread - Mystery Bluetooth device pairing request, although they weren't focused on the ad itself, rather a paring issue.
