How do I prevent Fenix 8 from auto-deleting activities after syncing?

Each time I sync my watch with Garmin connect - It deletes the activity from my watch. I understand this could be a benefit, but every run says "Fastest 5k", "Fastest Mile", "Longest Run" and it's annoying because it's not my fastest. It's just the fastest item on the watch which is typically only 1 activity so it's useless information. I would like to keep some of the activity data on the watch unless the watch can't handle the storage or something. Anyone have an answer to this or is that a default behaviour that can't be changed?

  • The watch does not delete any activities. They are stored in the folder //GARMIN/Activity, and you can also view them through the History option in the watch menu.

For the Personal Record to be properly detected, you have to accept or reject the previous record(s). You can do it at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/personal-records. Make sure to click the button "Send to Device" after accepting the records or doing any other changes.

  • Interesting. I see the /personal-records and accepted them. But do you have to go there and accept them every time a run syncs?

Currently every 1 mile, 5k, 10k I run it says I've set a new record whether it be 6min/miles or 10min/miles.

  • But do you have to go there and accept them every time a run syncs?

No, only when there is a new record.

Currently every 1 mile, 5k, 10k I run it says I've set a new record whether it be 6min/miles or 10min/miles.

Did you send back the updated PR table to the watch, after confirming the new record, as I suggested? It is the watch that detects the records, so if the updated PR table is not synced, the watch will behave as if there were no approved records yet.

  • I 'sent it to device' yes. It just seems odd that I have to go somewhere and 'accept' a PR - And then send it back to my watch. It seems that would be an automated process. I don't even get a notification to accept something. I just have to remember to go to that link each week I suppose.

  • every run says "Fastest 5k", "Fastest Mile", "Longest Run"

…‘NOTE: If you have not accepted a PR in Garmin Connect or if the particular PR is hidden, your device will continue to notify you of new PRs until one is accepted. To resolve this, you would need to make the PR visible and either accept or reject the automatically detected PR activity.“…

  • Normally you don't have to send it to the watch. Just accept it and it should work. I've never sent my PRs to the watch.

You should get a notification on the watch that you've set a new PR right after the activity. If you want to accept it then you must click it in Garmin Connect. Sometimes you don't want to accept a new PR and then you can just ignore it or decline it.

  • Just accept it and it should work.

Except if you add a record manually. I do not exclude, it gets synced anyway (sooner or later), but personally I prefer always sending the PR table back to the device when I modify it, to assure that both tables (the PRs in GC and on the watch) are instantly identical. And if you use multiple devices, it may be even more important.

I don't even get a notification to accept something.

Normally, the watch notifies you when a new PR is detected, though it may be true it does not tell you to go to GC and accept or reject it there. However, once you saw the PR table after the 1st record, it is rather self-explanatory that the PR is not valid till approved.
