I’m disconnected from the app every few days and have to spend ages going through a full setup and sync. Any idea why or how to stop it happening?

I click on the app to do a sync, not necessarily every day but every few days.  And often I find that I’ve been signed out and have to start again every time with a full set up and a time consuming sync.  It’s very frustrating and wastes time every time.  I have never knowingly signed out, but even if I had shouldn’t a sign in be enough rather than a full set up?  It isn’t every time, so presumably there is a remember me thing that works sometimes?!!  Searching didn’t find posts about a similar problem.

  • This kind of problems is sometimes reported by some users of Android phones. Especially Pixel, and Samsung Galaxy S2* models have the tendency to "forget" the watch. Often, disabling diverse battery optimizing options, and resetting the network on the watch can help. Also a conflict between BT and Wi-Fi can be the culprit, and in such case switching the phone's Wi-Fi from 2.4 GHz to 5 GHz (where possible) can fix it.

However, I do not remember seing such complaints here on the iOS forum. Which watch, which iPhone, and which iOS version do you use?

  • Thank you for your suggestions.  I’m using an iPhone 7, on iOS 15.8.3, the newest available for such an old phone.  I have a Venu SQ.

  • I use wifi in a lot of different places, and BT goes on and off from time to time but the problem isn’t only when I’m at home so it doesn’t seem to be linked to just one wifi type.

  • Perhaps I misunderstood. Is it the app tat signes you out, and you have to log into with your credentials, or is it the device that you have to pair again each time? I was reporting to the second case. The first case might be perhaps related to your frequent switching of Wi-Fi access points. Some of them might be perhaps identified by CloudFlare (the security service controlling the access to Garmin's servers) as unsecure, and therefore you have to sign in again. Also some VPNs and anonymizers may cause such effect. On the other hand, a proper safe VPN service might also help to avoid the signing out.

Well, if you find no solution, I recommend reaching out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com. Use the Phone or Chat options for an instant response. Email exchanges usually take a few days.

  • It’s both!  I’m signed out of the app and when I sign back in I have to redo everything.

And unfortunately I can’t change the fact that I have wifi at home and different wifi at work, nor that currently I’m spending days at a time staying in my mother’s house with a 3rd wifi.

    it’s just really irritating.

  • Anyway, it is not normal, and the expected behavior. You could try reinstalling the app, but otherwise I suggest you contact the Support and have them look at it.

  • My Venu Sq 2 Music disconnects when too far from my iPhone, as is expected. But every few days, I don't know why, but it does NOT automatically reconnect when it comes back into range. It seems like this is a common problem when I look at the other Garmin forums. :(

The only solution is to remove the Venu Sq 2 from the Garmin Connect iPhone app and then go through the process of pairing it again. Fortunately, the data is NOT lost. But each time I do this to reconnect, the Garmin server sends me a Welcome to Garmin email "Thanks for registering your Venu® Sq 2 - Music Edition". Bruh!

I wish my Venu Sq 2 would just auto connect when back in range and not force me to pair again.

  • The only solution is to remove the Venu Sq 2 from the Garmin Connect iPhone app

Never experienced this with any of my Garmin watches and my iPhone, but before deciding for such a brutal solution like removing the device from the app, I would test less dramatic possibilities first (if you did not do it all yet):

    • Reviewing all Connect permissions in iOS settings (especially Bluetooth, Background App Refresh, Location)
    • Tapping the Sync icon at the top of the app. Try multiple times.
    • Pulling the home screen of the app slightly down and then releasing. It initiates the syncing too. Also, repeat several times with a few secs waiting in between the attempts
    • Initiating the syncing from the watch (not sure whether there is this option on your model though), or toggling the BT (Phone) option on the watch
    • Toggling Bluetooth off and on again on the iPhone
    • Restarting the app (swiping it up in the app switcher and then opening again)
    • Restarting the watch
    • Restarting the phone
    • Removing the watch from the list of Bluetooth devices on the phone (without removing it from the app!) and then opening the watch screen on the GC app (it should attempt to re-pair it again in that moment)
  • Thx Trux. I had tried all the first few options to no avail. The only ones I have not tried are the bottom ones (quoted here). I’ll try when it happens next and see which is quickest without removing or unpairing. I agree; removing or unpairing seem rather drastic actions. Cheers.

  • Further to advice from , the simplest solution to reconnecting (for me) seems to be to toggle my phone Bluetooth on/off. See attached screenshots. Both ways work. After clicking Bluetooth off then on again, my Venu automatically reconnected.
I have an iPhone 8 iOS 16.6.1 and a Garmin Venu Sq 2 Music.
