September climbing challenge progress inconsistent with badge progress

The September 2024 10K climbing challenge shows 0 of 10,000' while clicking on "View badge details" and showing the badge shows the actual number - both real-world and virtual climbs recorded on my Edge 840. Other challenges accurately track what I've done so far, despite having signed up for this month's challenges a couple days after my activity on the 1st.

Different tally on challenge vs badge

It's been about 20 hours since the last activity was recorded (before I signed up for this challenge, as well as other challenges) and I've tried quitting the app and re-opening, as well as checking on Connect for the Web to see the same results.

I'll hit it no problem, but figured I'd report the issue regardless. I've not seen this before in challenges vs. badges and, as mentioned above, other challenges I signed up for after the fact this month are showing numbers for activities I started at the 1st of this month.

  • This is clearly bugged. I was at ~9,400' this morning, rode almost 800', and now the badge shows ~750' / 10,000' but the challenge shows ~2,400'. All of this was captured with an Edge 840 and about 90% of it was real-world even. What's going on here? All the other badges/challenges seem to be working.

  • I see the correct progress for that badge and the same progress in all progress bars so it isn't a general error.

Are you changing anything in the activities after they are uploaded like changing the activity type? After every upload the progress is recalculated from all logged activities for the challenge period.

Have you seen this error in previous months for the climbing badges?

  • I change the elevation for virtual rides I dual record (but don’t upload to Garmin) to match what Zwift records, but not for real rides. At most I may change the gear (bike) as needed for real world rides. Almost all elevation gain this month so far was from real rides. I recorded 5,303’ on a 100.7mi ride alone this past weekend. The badge for me seems to be showing the exact elevation gain from my commute home today and no more.

Past months’ elevation badges have worked correctly. I’ve been getting over 7,000m on Strava every month this year so I’m definitely getting the 10,000’.

  • I also just realized, based on my original screenshot I posted, that the tracked challenge elevation gain hasn’t moved despite over 8,000’ gained in real-world rides recorded on an Edge 840 this past week.

  • Zwift rides don't count for challenges. All rides must be logged with a Garmin device. Manually created activities do not count either.

If all those rides are logged with the Edge 840 then something is indeed not working as it should.

Commonly used tricks to fix issues with challenges are to leave the challenge and join again and to make slight edits to the activities (for example adding 1 kcal).

  • That’s why I dual-record Zwift rides on my 840 and don’t upload from Zwift to Garmin (don’t want to double dip - I’m not looking to cheat these motivational badges). I only adjust mileage and elevation gain in those cases, but almost all rides this month so far have been real-world rides recorded on my 840. All those in my last screenshot are real-world rides. I’ll try rejoining the challenge.

Update: leaving and rejoining the challenge worked. Thanks! I’ve never had to do that in the past but I’ll keep that in mind if it happens again.
