Intensity Minutes Not Showing - Fenix 7

I realize there are other threads on this but most are old.  I am tracking Intensity Minutes and certain activities appear to give me credit while others don't.  Specifically, walking and treadmill walking/running seem to work just fine, but Indoor Cycling does not.

Here is a screenshot of my heart rate today.  As you can see, I walked in the morning - Intensity Minutes seems accurate. I biked (indoor) at lunch and no Intensity Minutes were recorded.

Any thoughts on something in my settings that might be causing this.  It has been going on a for a while and I changed watches (so it not the watch itself).

Thanks.

  • Which setting for IMs do you use? The default one (based on Resting HR), or the one based on HR Zones? In the later case, are your Cycling HR Zones identical to the General HR Zone table?

Did you use the HRM-Pro strap for the indoor cycling? If so, then the 10 consecutive minutes requirement apply at HRM-Pro (see the document How Does the Intensity Minutes Feature Work? | Garmin Customer Support for the details).

Could you share links to the Walk and Indoor Cycling activities, and post a screenshot of the IM graph too?

  • I'm not sure how to check which setting for IMs I use.  Any hints on finding that?

Check out the device settings » User Profile » Health & Wellness » Weekly Intensity Minutes

Here are my Indoor Cycling and Walking activities for that day

A link to the activity is needed, the screenshot is not sufficient for the analysis.

  • There is no User Profile/Health & Wellness category on my app or on the watch.  When I go to User Settings, all I see is Gender, Birthdat, Height, Weight, Wrist, Heart Rate & Power Zones, Critical Swim Speed

    Here are the links.

Are you really looking in Device Settings, or rather in the general app settings? If it is not in the device settings, then I recommend consulting the user manual for your model, or asking on the F7 forum where other users could tell you the right path for your device.

Connect App - DEVICE - settings - fitness - weekly intensity minutes.

  • This was almost it.  It was Connect App --> Device --> Health & Wellness --> Weekly Intensity Minutes

My "Use Heart Rate Zones" is unchecked

So to answer trux's original question, I believe it is based on my Resting Heart Rate

Also, I don't use a strap.  I just use my watch's heartrate monitor.

So, now what?  Any ideas?  Today's walk and run activities yielded good intensity minutes.  The "Bike Indoor" activity seems to be the primary culprit here.

  • Personally I did not find anything wrong in your indoor activity, and based on the other data you posted (Resting HR, IM settings), it indeed looks like you should get some IM's for that activity. I can only recommend the following:

    • Connect the watch to a computer with Garmin Express and check for updates, and install them if some are available
    • Hard-reset the watch - sync, then press the Light button for some 30s till it completely shuts down (hold the button through the emergency alert, if it comes), wait little bit, and then restart. No worry, no data or settings will be lost with it. [more details].
    • You should also try to Remove and Add a Device From the Garmin Connect App | Garmin Customer Support
    • If it does not help, you can try resetting the watch to the factory settings
    • You can also try using the HR Zones instead of the Resting HR
    • If nothing of it helps, then reach out to the Product Support through their website at https://support.garmin.com. Use the Phone or Chat options. Email exchanges take a lot of time.
