Is my garmin 55 able to have hike as an activity . I’m not seeing it when I try to add it . Wondering if a software issue would remedy this?

Forerunner 55 doesn't support the Hike profile.

I suggest you log it as Walk and then change the type to Hike in Garmin Connect after save and sync if you want it to be logged as hiking.

Ok I guess it is technically a walk , but other models have hike and walk available in the activities .

That's correct, you need another model for the hike activity. Or a Connect IQ app.
