Not sure whether it can be added from the home page, but you can do it in Menu » Activities. Better though, log all your activities with your device. Logging activities manually is rather useless, and it has no impact practically on any metrics.
If you want to be able to do this from the home page, setup one of the activity trends in the "In Focus" section, such as "All Activities." Then click the '+' to add an activity.
