Not in my case. 

it just appears the activity scheduled for today in my training plan. But I can only see it if I go to the calendar or to the training plan. 

Agreed.  Nothing is readily accessible.  This is the kind of change that might have me moving on from Garmin.  There are a lot of other options out there.

Probably the worst update to an App I can remember. Ever. 

No changes to anything meaningful - which we’re desperately needed throughout the App

A load of pointless changes that generally make it significantly worse - uglier, less efficient, less useful.

my only hope is another brand ups its game and eventually kicks Garmin out of the field.  

I'm not currently in a training plan, so can't replicate your issue. Can you send screenshots of what you're seeing?

Today we released an update to Garmin Connect that introduces the new Home page.  This update had been in a public beta since January and we have made many updates and changes based on the public feedback we received.

Today we forced upon you a butchered Garmin Connect that introduces the new Home page that our intern mocked up.  This update had been in a public beta since January and we have made practically zero updates and changes based on the public outcry  calling it a travesty and begging for it to never see the light of day.  
we look forward to hearing about  the spike in growth of our competitors as you all rush to replace your Garmin devices with those connected to a professional ecosystem.
