Cycling registers as high stress

I commute by bike, and don’t always think to turn on the cycling activity because I expect MoveIQ to realize I’m cycling. The following thing has now happened twice: after cycling I get a “your stress level has been very high” warning and I’m told this has taken 5 points off my body battery. There is no trace of the cycling activity if I look at BB and the factors influencing it. However, if I look under active minutes I can see a MoveIQ registration of the exact same event, where it’s been recognized correctly as cycling. This is kind of messing up all my stress data and it seems like it should not be happening? This is a Garmin venu 3s. 

  • Record the commute as an activity. When activity is in progress, the stress detection is suppressed. 

  • As I mentioned, I don’t always remember to. And frankly I don’t think I should have to? My question is, when the Garmin does actually realize with MoveIQ that I’m cycling, why would it register stress? It doesn’t when it registers walking.

    Yes, you do, otherwise the stress will be recorded. Another solution is riding more intensively in order that the Stress measurement is suppressed (it only happens when the accelerometer detects motion strong enough to harm the HRV measuring). In other words, getting used to start the activity manually is your best chance. You can also suggest a change to Garmin at Share Ideas | Garmin

    However, if the motion is small enough in order to allow the HRV measuring with a decent accuracy, then there is no reason to suppress the Stress recording, regardless whether the MoveIQ detected an activity or not. The decline of BB during an activity is correct, and measured more accurately with the HRV, than simply by an estimated based on the activity type. I see nothing wrong in the BB declining during a commute ride. It is rather expected.

  • I agree that it’s totally reasonable that BB goes down when you are subjecting your body to stress whether physical or other. But it pushes up the overall stress measurements with all the “high stress” that’s detected. I just don’t understand why this isn’t treated as any other activity it detects, which is omitted from the stress measurement. (I’m trying to work on stress management and bringing down other kinds of stress).
