Transferring custom work outs to Vivoactive 5 watch - error not compatible but no explanation

I created a workout based on Dr Moseley's fat burning 5 minute session.  I followed the instructions and could see it saved on my phone in connect.  I then pressed the 'phone transfer' icon and it showed my watch as connected but also said 'incompatible' and it is not showing on the watch after syncing.  It is convoluted enough without it not explaining why it is incorrect!

Suggestion: all custom workouts should be transferred by default at any 'sync'. 

  • Not compatible usually means that you've created a workout of a type that the watch doesn't support. The only workout type that Vivoactive 5 explicitly doesn't support is the Pool Swim Workout.

    What type of workout did you create?

    Try sending the workout from Garmin Connect Web: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/workouts

    The number of non-scheduled workouts on the watch is limited to 25 so you can't transfer all by default. Make sure you haven't reached the limit.

  • I tried doing it through the computer (should not be necessary) and it still didn't work. The error message suggested the device wasn't set up in Connect or Express but it synced fine in Connect and was shown as a connected device.

    It looks like you don't have any compatible devices set up.

    If you don't see the device you were expecting, it may not support this feature, or your device has not been set up in Garmin Connect or Garmin Express.
  • This is the workout, simple as can be, not the screen shot but the details are the same but in a different format.

  • Try creating a HIIT workout instead and see if that works better than Other.

    Note that the type of the workout must match the activity you are starting it with. You can only start HIIT workouts with the HIIT profile, cardio workouts with the Cardio profile and so on. So, Other workouts can only be started with a profile that is of the Other type.
