Venu 2S not receiving text notifications but receives calls

I am trying to set my new Venu 2S up to receive texts and calls only but it only receives calls. I have set the notifications setting in the Garmin Connect to texts and calls only for during activity and not during activity and checked that bluetooth is connected. When someone calls me, the watch alerts me, but when someone texts me the watch doesn't send an alert. 

  • If you are using an iPhone, confirm the following:

    1. Open the iPhone Settings App.
    2. Select Notifications.
    3. Select the Messages app.
    4. On this page, make sure the 'Notification Center' has a blue check-mark under it.
    5. On the same page, make sure 'Show Previews' is set to Always or While Unlocked. 
    6. If any changes are made, sync your watch with the Garmin Connect app and test again.

    If you are using an Android, confirm the following:

    1. Open the Garmin Connect App.
    2. Select More (bottom right).
    3. Select Settings.
    4. Select Notifications.
    5. Select App Notifications.
    6. Make sure the 'Messages' app is toggled on (blue).
