Anyone know why lap times don’t add up to the total finish time on a 5k run? Example - lap times 1. 5.37 2. 5.33 3. 5.42 4. 5.51 5. 5.38 That should add up to a finish time of 27.01 but Garmin watch shows finish time of 28.23? Baffling

Anyone know why lap times don’t add up to the total finish time on a 5k run?

Example - lap times
1. 5.37
2. 5.33
3. 5.42
4. 5.51
5. 5.38

That should add up to a finish time of 27.01 but Garmin watch shows finish time of 28.23? Baffling

Actually, the sum of the times you posted is as follows. Assuming the format is actually 5:37 as in 5 min 37 secs, and not 5.31 min (0.31 min is 18.6 seconds, hence 5.31 min = 5min 18.6s ~= 5:19). A minute does not have 100 seconds, only 60, and AFAIK Garmin Connect uses only the format min:sec. And in that case the sum seems to be OK.

(5*5*60 + 37+33+42+51+38) = 1701 sec = 28 min and 21 sec. The discrepancy of 2sec comes certainly from the rounding of the fractional values of the seconds.

The summ is indeed perfectly correct there:

60*(5+5+5+5+5) + 37.1+33.5+42.6+51.7+38.6 = 1703.5 sec = 28 min 23.5 s rounded to 28:24 is what it should be
