How do I manually ad steps to my Garmin account?

My watch ran out of battery yesterday. I Can see on my health app on my phone. That I took 7000 steps. I would like to put those steps on my Garmin account. How do I do that?

  • You can't edit the steps.

  • Well, if you do not have any data at all for given day, then you can import the steps data in the Fitbit CSV file format (see an example below). However, if there already is some data recorded for that day, it won't work. This data import is possible only at blank days.

Also please note, that the imported steps won't count towards badges and challenges. Not sure if the imported steps count towards the Steps Goal Streak, but perhaps yes.

If you want to import multiple days, you can add multiple rows with data (the first two header lines are needed only once). Do not edit the header lines.

Edit the file with a simple text editor, such as Notepad. Avoid rich-text editors like Word or Wordpad! Do not use Excel! Once saved, change the file extension from .txt to .csv (for example "steps_import.csv")

When importing at https://connect.garmin.com/modern/import-data and prompted for the options, make sure to select the right number formatting, and English as language.

  • ... You can verify whether the import can work for you or not, when you look at the 4 weeks Steps stats in Garmin Connect Web. You can only import the data for days with no bar at all in the graph. If there is a bar of any color (including the gray bars with 0 steps), then the import fails.
