My daily steps went backwards ?

Hello.

This issue was already discussed 4 years ago in this forum but is unfortunately still not solved!

I was working on the challenge of achieving my daily steps during 30 days and had 27 days in a row. However yesterday I got up to my daily steps and went to bed and today my Garmin Fenix 6 and the connect app showed about 1300 steps less and I missed the challenge because of this bug. (luckily I have screenshots of this as I realized earlier that the app was sometime not properly syncing) This is so frustrating and unfortunately Garmin has not been able to solve this random issue within 4 years!

As you can see in my 2 screenshots I achieved my daily steps on March 18. but in the 4 week overview and today it says on my watch and the app that I did not achieve my daily steps which is not correct!

Has anyone else had this issue before? I will contact the support tomorrow.

  • Has anyone else had this issue before?

Personally I have not, but it can, of course, happen when the syncing fails for whatever reason.

I always check the steps before midnight on the Steps full-screen. Unlike the panel on the My Day screen, the detailed Steps screen shows the number that was already synced to the server. In this way, when you see that the synced number is not identical to the number your watch shows, you still have time to fix it - either syncing again with the app, or connecting the watch over the USB cable and syncing with Garmin Express.

  • Thanks for your answer and being so active during the last years replying on this topic. I realized that I am by far not the only one with this issue. This is clearly a bug that the developers at Garmin need to fix.
I don't want to control every evening if my steps have really been synced!!
Chronology was : My Fenix 6 displays that I have reached my daily steps with GOAL - I open the connect app and press the sync button manually to make sure that my steps were synced to my connect app - I see in the connect app in the day overview that my steps were synced (screenshot above) - then I went to bed to realize next morning that 1300 steps are missing and that because of that I missed my monthly challenge!

Well, it is up to you. I just tried to help avoiding the bad surprise finding you did not meet your steps goal only when it is already too late. The only other thing you can do, to mitigate the damage, is changing the system time on the phone to the concerned day, and decreasing the Steps Goal.

As for Garmin fixing it - I recommend contacting the Support. As long as there is not a big number of similar cases reported directly to the Support, where they could collect sufficient data, there is little chance it could be fixed.

  • Yes sure, thanks for your help! I have contacted the support.
