Sport climbing - outdoor

Hello Garmin
I think we all deserve sport climbing as a new outdoor activity. Your "climb" app only covers mountain climbing (mountaineering) and is not suitable for outdoor rock climbing, i.e. trad, sport, mutliptich, ice climbing.

  • Would that be bouldering?

Free climbing on small rock formations, indoors or outdoors, without the use of harnesses or ropes.

  • No, if you are bouldering you are climbing max 4m, if you are sport climbing you are usually climbing up to 40m. Unless you're doing multi pitch, in which case it's X number of pitches times 30-40 metres. Also each pitch can have different climbing grade. Also would be nice to have a gps/map location

Well, I am not a climber, but the description of the activity tells the following, and I'd tell it claims to be designed for rock climbing:

    Climb

This activity profile may be found under "Outdoor".

With the addition of GPS, you will see an increase in accuracy with your outdoor rock climbing activities. Select a grading system and difficulty to begin. Use the lap key to identify the end of your route. You will then be prompted to enter how many falls you had. Press the start key to begin your next route and change level of difficulty when necessary. At the end of your activity you can view: Total Time, Climb Time, Rest Time, Number of Routes, Total Ascents, Calories, etc.

If not sufficient, then there are some climbing apps in the Connect IQ store, so perhaps some of them can fulfill your needs better:

  • This is the activity I was looking for, but it is not available on the Fenix series. Having said that, there is a climb activity on the Fenix, but it is only related to mountaineering - I am not sure if you are familiar with this term, the main point in mountaineering is to reach the summit of a mountain (alpinism). This is not rock climbing. There is also a real lack of such an app on Garmin IQ Store.

  • In that case it looks like you need the Forerunner watch instead of Fenix.

  • Or maybe Garmin should “copy/paste” it into the Fenix

  • You can try suggesting it to them: Share Ideas | Garmin, but I am afraid it takes a huge number of similar requests to make them act on such suggestions, so I would not expect any quick reaction. If you want to use it now, exchange your watch.

You can also try copying the activity from a Forerunner watch supporting it. It is in the folder //GARMIN/Sports, but such copying between different models does not always work. I saw, though, already cases when it worked (with another activity, not with climbing).

  • I did a lot of googling and saw a lot of the same request, so I think Garmin should seriously consider adding this to the Fenix. I have already submitted the idea. Anyway, where do I get the source of this to copy? Do you happen to know maybe?

  • I think Garmin should seriously consider adding this to the Fenix

The question is whether Garmin thinks it too Wink

Anyway, where do I get the source of this to copy

    On a Forerunner 935, 945, 955, or 965 watch

  • Ok, So that means borrowing a watch from someone else, ehhhh.

Anyway, whoever's googling this thread and craving this app, please submit this as an idea, let's put some pressure on.
