Vigorous Strength Training minutes not counted

Hi, I was just checking y fitness age and it showing me that I have almost 0 vigorous minutes in last 4 weeks.

I am doing mainly strength training but with quite high intensity.

What I don't understand is that my training detail is showing some numbers in different hearth zones but I got only 1 minutes of vigorous minutes ?

Can someone please clarify how it works because I would expect that also strength training ZONE 3 and ZONE 4 minutes should be counted as vigorous.

Here is detail of my training:

Thanks :)

  • I’ve noticed the same today. If you’ve got your intensity minutes set to Garmin default calculation you should have plenty. I’ve got mine set to Zone 2 & 4 and it’s only recording the Moderate minutes (Zone 2 to 3)

  • Exactly, I had 33 minutes in zone 3 and 5 minutes in zone 4. Not sure which is used as vigorous minutes but event if it is zone 4 there should be 5 minutes at least, so I don't get it why there is just 1 minute.

  • I notice the same since a week or so! I did a factory reset last week, so I thought I forgot a setting or something.

Edit: for example Sunday it seems like it still worked as intended? I had 31 minutes in zone 3, 20,5 minutes in zone 4, 1.5 minute zone 5 so I received 22 intensity minutes (x2).

but since monday it doesn’t work anymore it seems: 11.5 minutes zone 2, 50.5 in zone 3, 12 in zone 4 and only 2 intensity minutes received! (X2)
if I look at Sunday’s intensity minutes, I guess the intensity minutes would’ve been 12 and not 2?

  • Can someone please clarify how it works

It depends on the settings, and on the device model you use. By default HR Zones are not used. The threshold is based on the 7 days avg Resting HR. Assuming from my testing, in my case the threshold is roughly 150% of it for IM and roughly 200% of it for vigorous minutes. Besides that, some models require 10 continuous minutes of high effort. Shorter intervals, where the HR drops lower, will not be counted.

It is explained in details at How Are Intensity Minutes Earned? | Garmin Customer Support

  • Ok I just get Garmin hrm pro plus as a gift and I can tell that now it counts 15 vigorous minutes from my 60 minutes strength training. So it seems that Venu 2 are not so reliable when it comes to the HR during strength training. Outages in HR monitoring are probably causing that I had 0 vigorous minutes before due to the dips in HR during workout sessions. Now it looks better.
