Forerunner965 not calculating my VO2Max even though I’ve met all criteria for qualifying workouts

During several of my recent rigorous runs, my forerunner 965 has not updated my VO2Max. Yes, I have met all of the necessary criteria for VO2 to be calculated…what is going on??

I am afraid nobody can really tell you if you do not share a link to the activity, so that we can see whether the conditions were really met. Did you double check that your Max HR did not change in the last time? If you post the link to the activity, please tell also what the max HR in your User Profile now is.

  • You did not tell what your current Max HR is, and guessing it by the HR Zones, it looks like it is minimally 200 bpm, if not even more. In that case it is uncertain whether you really met the conditions for VO₂max - spending 10 continuous minutes above 70% of your Max HR.

In your place I would conduce a Max HR test, set the Max HR manually and disable the auto-detection, and then I would adjust the HR Zones accordingly. Seing you use a HRM chest strap, I recommend doing also the Guided Lactate Threshold Test (once the Max HR is accurately set), and using the LTHR-based HRZ table.

  • these are the HR criteria I’ve had set for months now. So I would have met the 70% of max for >10 minutes yesterday. Also and what’s strange is my long run on Saturday, it counted towards VO2. As I mentioned in my OP, it seems to only be neglecting the vigorous workouts (ironically).

  • Strangely, your HR Zone 5 starts at 180 bpm, although it should rather start at the LTHR (169 bpm). I recommend first fixing the HR zones, then restarting the watch, and trying another run. If it does not help, reach out to the Support, send them the data, and have them look at it closely.

  • Ok, will give that a shot. I did manually adjust my HR zones a few months back bc my Z2 ranged didn’t seem to match the .6-.7% of maxHR formula so maybe that’s what did it.

  • And did you also suggest that all of the auto detection should be turned off or just the max HR?

  • Yes, once you have a reliable Max HR established, I recommend disabling the Max HR detection to avoid it gets increased accidentally due to erroneous HRM readings. The Max HR does not increase with fitness. It only decreases with age. So to keep it up to date, you can perform a max HR test once a year, and adjust the value manually.
