False walking steps generated on garmin watch

Watch shows that I am walking when I am riding in my car, thus generating extra and false total steps. How do I stop this?

  • How do I stop this?

Change the suspension of the car Smiley Or start an activity suppressing the steps counting - if you have no Driving activity on your watch, you can use for example Indoor Cycling, and discard it at the end. Or save it, and change to Driving later in Garmin Connect, if you prefer keeping the log.

  • Thank you for your reply.
I suppose that would work. The watch is just in basic watch face with steps taken as one of the parameters showing, but no real activity such as hiking or walking selected; that I know of. Not all that familiar with it.

  • Steps are being detected (with the accelerometer) and recorded all the time, regardless whether you record an activity or not, with the exception of a couple of activities like diverse driving, cycling, rowing, or swimming activities, where the steps recording is suspended.
